Biography

Birthplace: Carthage, Mississippi

There were only 42 students in her segregated high school class, all of whom had to take the same courses which, in mathematics, ended with Algebra 2 taught by the Shop teacher who was also the assistant principal who missed many classes. Thus, when she entered college, she was unprepared for mathematics studies. But at small Alcorn, the faculty "pushed" their students to succeed. Thus, she well prepared to pursue her M.A. degree at DePauw. After a stint at high school teaching and teaching at Alcorn State, she was "pushed" again, this time by Alcorn's administration, to complete her doctorate. Thusm she entered Pittsburgh in 1973. After her Ph.D., Dr. Gee returned to the Alcorn State College faculty. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1985 in order to work for the government.
