Birthplace: Wickliff, Louisiana At the age of 16, Mary Sylvester Deconge entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family. She earned a B.A. (1959) in Mathematics and Science from Seton Hill College (in Pennsylvania), an M.A. in Mathematics from the Louisiana State University (1962), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics (with a minor in French) from St. Louis University (1968). Mary Sylvester Deconge is a nun in the holy order of the Sisters of S F and taught in high schools and colleges until 1964. Sister Deconge was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1968 to 1971. In 1971, Sister Deconge was appointed to the Mathematics Faculty at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. RESEARCH Sister Mary Sylvester Deconge authored and co-authored several very short research notes appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (USA), The Notices of the American Mathematics Society, and the Journal of Mathematical Analytical Applications.
